NARAYANI

With passionate melodies and angelic harmonies, the combined musical experience and influences of Laura Kemp and Luna Marcus bring a unique element to modern day devotional music and kirtan. Trading off with the lead (call), they back each other on harmonium, guitar, and vocal harmonies. Their fresh interpretations of tradional bhajans as well as their original chants are sung primarily in Sanskrit and performed in a classic call and response style.

With 25 years of performing, writing, and recording experience, Laura’s musical influences range from folk to bluegrass to jazz. She has played guitar for 40 years and has released 6 recordings of mostly original music, with a jazz standards recording due out at the end of 2015. Luna has sung backup/harmony vocals for numerous kirtan artists over the past 10 years, including Jaya Lakshmi, Benji and Heather Wertheimer (Shantala), and Peia.  She is also a successful business woman and the co-founder of Luna and Larry’s Coconut Bliss. Sharing a deep commitment to and passion for yoga, they have both completed 200 hour yoga teacher trainings and contiune their personal explorations of tantra, advaita vedanta, and sanskrit.

Tim May, Steve Smith, Laura Kemp

House Concert, 118 Merry Lane, Eugene, OR

I am excited to bring Steve Smith to town after many years! Steve is the mandolin player from my album May and we have shared the stage multiple times in OR as well as NM. He is touring with an amazing guitarist from Nashville, Tim May. I'll be playing a few songs in the show but mostly stepping aside to let these two guys dazzle you for the evening. Seating is very limited so make your reservation early!

The Tim May and Steve Smith duo brings an evening of original, traditional and swing music with mandolinist/vocalist Steve Smith and Nashville guitarist/vocalist Tim May.  The two musicians have collaborated in studio and on stages nationwide and now bring their acoustic brand of fire on the strings to Eugene. Smith and May originally met while on staff at Camp Bluegrass in Levelland, Texas and quickly discovered many common musical threads for exploration honoring tradition and improvisation. Their latest CD (July 2016) Murder of Crows reflects upon this acoustic music force the duo has become and includes seven originals. Their shows include tight vocal harmonies, dazzling guitar, mandolin, octave mandolin and twin mandolin works throughout a broad range of styles.
